 Jyotirao Phule (1827–1890)

  • Born: In Maharashtra into a socially backward Mali community.
  • He was given a title of Mahatma by Vithalrao Krishnaji Vandekar.
  • Father of Indian Social Revolution: Phule worked for upliftment of backward classes, and women and wanted abolition of caste system.
  • Publications: Satyashodhak (Weekly newspaper), Gulamgiri, Brahmananche Kasab, Sarvajanik Satyadharma Pustak, Shetkaryacha Asud etc. 

Difference between Banks and NBFCs

  • NBFCs cannot accept demand deposits;
  • NBFCs do not form part of the payment and settlement system and cannot issue cheques drawn on itself;
  • Deposit insurance facility of Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC) is not available to depositors of deposit taking NBFCs.
  • Standalone Primary Dealers, registered as NBFCs with the RBI, can access the Liquidity Adjustment Facility window of the RBI.
  • Exception: Only those NBFCs holding a specific deposit-accepting Certificate of Registration and a minimum investment-grade credit rating of ‘BBB-‘ are permitted to accept deposits.

Gaganyaan Mission

  • Objective: Demonstration of human spaceflight capability by launching a crew of 3 members to a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) of 400 km for a 3 days mission and bringing them back safely to earth, by landing in Indian sea waters.
  • Two unmanned missions and one manned mission will be undertaken by ISRO.
  • Three Components of the Mission
  • Human Rated Launch Vehicle (HLVM-3): ISRO’s reliable heavy-lift launcher, LVM3, has been re-configured to meet human rating requirements. It is a three-stage rocket:
  • First stage: Two solid-fuel boosters strapped to the rocket core.
  • Second stage: Powered by two liquid-fuelled, clustered Vikas 2 engines.
  • Third stage: Equipped with the CE-20 indigenous cryogenic engine, using liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen as fuel and oxidiser, respectively.

CPA (HQ: London)

  • Founded in 1911, it is an international inter-parliamentary organization within the Commonwealth.
  • Objective: advancement of parliamentary democracy and good governance 
  • Membership: 180 national, state or provincial legislatures divided up between 9 geographic regions of the Commonwealth. 
  • Key publication: The Parliamentarian journal.

EIC

  • Genesis: It was set up by the Government of India under Export (Quality Control and Inspection) Act, 1963.
  • Ministry: Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
  • Aim: To ensure sound development of export trade of India through Quality Control and Inspection.
  • Functions: It is an advisory body to Central Government, which is empowered to notify commodities which will be subjected to quality control and inspection prior to export.
  • It also exercises technical and administrative control over the five Export Inspection Agencies (EIAs), one each at Chennai, Delhi, Kochi, Kolkata and Mumbai established.

NSTFDC

  • Overview: Apex organisation set up in 2001 under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
  • Aim: Provides financial assistance for income generating and sustainable livelihood activities for Scheduled Tribes.
  • Achievement: Extended 16.8 lakh loans worth ₹4,400 crore.
  • Significance: Promotes inclusive growth, livelihood generation, and tribal entrepreneurship.
