This exam is conducted to recruit Civil Judges (Junior Division) under the Assam Judicial Services by the Gauhati High Court.

โœ… Preliminary Examination (Screening Test)
  • Format: Objective Type (Multiple Choice Questions)

  • Total Marks: 100

    • 90 Marks: Legal Subjects & General Knowledge

    • 10 Marks: Assamese Language (Qualifying in nature)

  • Duration: 2 Hours

  • Purpose: Shortlisting for the Mains Exam

โœ… Main Examination (Descriptive)
  • Total Marks: 450

  • Duration: 3 Hours per paper

  • Papers:

    • Paper I: English โ€“ 100 Marks

    • Paper II: General Knowledge & Aptitude โ€“ 100 Marks

    • Paper III: Law Paper I (Civil Laws) โ€“ 100 Marks

    • Paper IV: Law Paper II (Criminal Laws) โ€“ 100 Marks

    • Paper V: Assamese Language โ€“ 50 Marks (Qualifying only)

โœ… Interview / Viva-Voce
  • Total Marks: 50

  • Minimum Qualifying Marks in Interview: 60% (for all categories)


๐ŸŽ“ Educational Qualification & Age Criteria
Educational Qualification
  • Must possess a degree in Law (LL.B.) from a recognized university.

  • Must be eligible to practice as an Advocate under the Advocates Act.

Age Limit (As on Notification Date)
  • General Category: Maximum 38 years

  • SC/ST: Maximum 43 years

  • Other relaxations as per government rules for women and PwBD candidates.


๐Ÿ—ฃ Language of Examination
  • The exam will be conducted in English.

  • Assamese language is mandatory as a qualifying paper in both prelims and mains.


โœ… Eligibility Criteria
  • Must be a citizen of India.

  • Must have good character and be medically fit.

  • Should not have any criminal record or be debarred from public service.

  • Should fulfill all educational and age-related conditions.
