The Bihar Judiciary Exam is conducted for recruiting Civil Judges (Junior Division) across the state’s subordinate courts.

🧾 Exam Pattern & Duration
βœ… Preliminary Examination (Objective Type)
  • Paper I: General Studies – 100 Marks

  • Paper II: Law – 150 Marks

  • Total Marks: 250

  • Duration: 2 hours 30 minutes

  • Purpose: Screening test to shortlist candidates for Mains

βœ… Main Examination (Descriptive Type)
  • Total Marks: 1050 (600 compulsory + 450 optional)

  • Compulsory Papers:

    • General Knowledge & Current Affairs – 150 Marks

    • Elementary General Science – 100 Marks

    • General Hindi – 100 Marks (qualifying; 30 marks minimum)

    • General English – 100 Marks (qualifying; 30 marks minimum)

    • Law of Evidence and Procedure – 150 Marks

  • Optional Papers (Any 3, each 150 marks):

    • Constitutional and Administrative Law

    • Hindu Law and Muhammadan Law

    • Law of Transfer of Property, Equity, Trusts

    • Law of Contracts and Torts

    • Commercial Law (Sale of Goods Act, Negotiable Instruments Act, etc.)

  • Marks: 100

  • Minimum Required: 35% to qualify

  • Educational Qualification: Must have a Law Degree (LL.B.) from a recognized university and be eligible to practice as an advocate.

  • Age Limit (As on Notification Date):

    • Minimum: 22 years

    • Maximum: 35 years for General category

    • Relaxation:

      • OBC: +3 years

      • SC/ST and Women: +5 years

  • The exam is conducted in English and Hindi.

  • General Hindi and General English are qualifying subjects in the Mains.

  • Must be an Indian citizen.

  • Should not have any criminal background.
