Light Pollution 

  • Definition: The excessive, misdirected, or obtrusive application of artificial outdoor lighting.
  • Issues:
  • Health Impacts: It disrupts human circadian rhythms and melatonin production, causing sleep disorders.
  • Ecological Disruption: It disorients migratory birds, endangers sea turtle hatchlings, and disrupts the feeding and breeding cycles of nocturnal wildlife.
  • Others: Sky glow obscures the night sky and hinders astronomical research, Economic cost of energy wastage, elevates carbon footprints.

About Sevilla Commitment

  • Adoption: Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4), held in Sevilla, Spain in 2025 to close $4 trillion annual SDG financing gap in developing countries. 
  • Key Features: Commitment contains 280 actions across global financing framework. 
  • Sevilla Platform for Action (SPA): Launched at FFD4 as voluntary, multi-stakeholder mechanism for early implementation of Sevilla Commitment. 

Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam

  • Enactment: 2023
  • Reservation for Women: One-third of all seats for women in Lok Sabha, state legislative assemblies, and Legislative Assembly of National Capital Territory of Delhi.  
  • Also applicable to seats reserved for SCs and STs. 
  • Rotation of seats: Seats reserved for women will be rotated after each delimitation, as per law by Parliament.   
  • Proposes Insertion of New Articles:
  • 330A: Reservation in Lok Sabha.
  • 332A: Reservation in States Legislatives Assembly
  • 239AA: Reservation in Legislative Assembly of National Capital Territory of Delhi.

Mauritius (Capital: Port Louis)

  • Political Features
  • Location: Island country in Indian Ocean, off Eastern Coast of Africa (East of Madagascar). 
  • Physiographically, it part of Mascarene Islands.
  • Territory: Rodrigues Island, Agalega Islands and Cargados Carajos Shoals. 
  • Strategic Issues: Claims sovereignty over Chagos Archipelago (including Diego Garcia). 

CAPF 

  • They are seven-Armed Police Organisations operating under the administrative control of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
  • While the Assam Rifles functions administratively under the MHA, its operational control lies with the Ministry of Defence.
  • CAPFs include Assam Rifles (AR), Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), National Security Guard (NSG) and Seema Suraksha Bal (SSB).
  • They are headed by DGP rank officers.

Southern Elephant Seal (Mirounga leonina)

  • IUCN Status: Vulnerable (earlier Least Concern)
  • Reason: Bird flu (Avian Influenza).
  • Characteristics: Largest seals on the planet, the largest mammals on Earth apart from whales; have a thick layer of blubber. 

Morchella Mushroom

  • Edible fungi genus distinguished by a honeycomb-like cap.
  • Properties: Earthy flavor, high protein, antioxidants, and therapeutic medicinal properties.
  • Difficult to cultivate due to complex life cycle and specific ecological conditions.
  • Regional Names: Gucchi/Kanaguchhi/Kangaech/Chhatri.
  • Distribution: Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand (Northern Western Himalaya).
  • It grows in high-altitude temperate forests during the short spring season.

 Measles

  • Nature: Highly contagious RNA virus (genus Morbillivirus); spreads via airborne droplets, remains infectious for hours.
  • Symptoms: High fever, runny nose, conjunctivitis, characteristic Koplik spots (white mouth lesions), rashes etc.
  • Complications: Severe cases can lead to pneumonia, encephalitis, and blindness.
  • Prevention: Safe, effective two-dose MMR vaccine (a combination vaccine against measles, mumps, and rubella).
  • India has set a goal of eliminating Measles and Rubella by 2026.
