Assam Passes Bill to Ban Polygamy

  • The Assam Cabinet approved the Bill to ban polygamy in November 2025.
  • Violations will attract imprisonment of up to seven years and compensation for victims.
  • The law excludes Scheduled Tribes and six Scheduled Areas of Assam.
  • Polygamous marriages among minority Muslims before 2005 in Scheduled Areas remain exempt.

‘Sahajeevan’ Project Of Guwahati

  • ‘Sahajeevan’ was launched by Guwahati Municipal Corporation to manage and vaccinate stray dogs.
  • The initiative aligns with Supreme Court orders to relocate stray dogs from public spaces.
  • Over 24,000 dogs have been sterilised in Guwahati since 2014 under the Animal Birth Control drive.
  • Assam recorded approximately 1.5 lakh dog bite cases in 2024, up from 90,000 in 2013.

Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY)

  • About: PMKVY is the flagship skill-development scheme of the MSDE, launched in July 2015. It aims to provide free short-duration training, certify skills through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), and enhance youth employability across India. 
  • Training is delivered through approved Training Centres under a standard quality framework aligned with the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF). 
  • Under the Scheme, every certified candidate is given a reward of Rs. 500 for clearing the exam as encouragement. 
  • It has trained candidates across sectors like manufacturing, construction, healthcare, IT and retail, and has expanded to future-focused areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Drone Technology, Robotics, Mechatronics and Internet of Things (IoT). 

Anish Bhanwala Wins Silver at ISSF World Championships 2025

  • Anish Bhanwala won silver in the men’s 25m rapid fire pistol at ISSF World Championships 2025 in Cairo.
  • Gold: Clement Bessaguet (France) – 31 points; Silver: Anish Bhanwala (India) – 28 points; Bronze: Maksym Horodynets (Ukraine) – 25 points.
  • This is Anish’s first individual senior World Championship medal.
  • He qualified second for the final with a score of 585 (291 + 294).
