About EEI

  • It is the difference between amount of energy the Earth receives from the Sun (incoming solar radiation minus reflected solar radiation) and amount of energy the Earth radiates back into space (outgoing long-wave radiation). (see infographic)
  • o “Positive” EEI: Earth is gaining energy and heating “Negative” EEI: Earth is losing energy and cooling
  •  EEI measures rate of the heat accumulation by anthropogenic GHG emissions in climate system and provides a comprehensive picture of warming.
  • Reasons for increase in EEI: Rising concentrations of GHG; reductions in aerosol emissions; increases in trace gases and water vapour (decreases outgoing long-wave radiation); decreased reflection by clouds and sea ice.

About Biogas

  • Composition: Methane (CH4) 55-60%, Carbon dioxide (CO2) 35-40%, Trace elements of Ammonia Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S) and moisture.
  • Main Technologies Involved in Production:
  • o Biodigesters: Airtight systems (e.g. containers or tanks) where organic material, diluted in water, is broken down by naturally occurring microorganisms.
  • o Landfill gas recovery systems: Involves decomposition of municipal solid waste (MSW) under anaerobic conditions at landfill sites.
  • o Wastewater treatment plants: These could recover organic matter, solids, and nutrients from sewage sludge, which could be used as input to produce biogas.

GlobE Network

  • Genesis: Established in 2021, based on Riyadh Initiative launched during Saudi Arabia’s G20 Presidency (2020).
  •  About: A global platform of specialised anti-corruption law enforcement authorities.
  •  Aim: Transnational cooperation world-wide to detect, investigate and prosecute corruption cases.
  •  Membership: Open to anti-corruption law enforcement authorities of all UN Member States and States parties to UN Convention against Corruption (UNCAC). India’s Central Bureau of Investigation and Directorate of Enforcement are its members.
  • Supported by: UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), which provides its secretariat.
  •   GlobE Secure Communications Platform (SCP): Provides practical support to investigators and prosecutors for swift, secure exchange of information etc.

About AI4AI

  • Launched In: 2021.
  • Aim:  Brings together public and private sector partners to scale impactful agri-tech solutions and accelerate transformation of global food systems.
  • Key Focus Areas: Inclusivity (towards small holder famers, etc.); Sustainability (reducing environmental footprint); Efficiency (minimising losses and wastage).
  • Used by four Indian states, namely, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana, and Madhya Pradesh from 2021 to 2024.
