Current Affairs 27 February 2026
Namami Gange Programme (NGM)
- Background: Integrated Conservation Mission approved in 2014 for a period up to March 2021 and later extended up to 31st March 2026 as NGM 2.0.
- Objective: Effective abatement of pollution and rejuvenation of the River Ganga.
- Main Pillars: Sewage treatment, River-Front development, River surface cleaning, Afforestation, Biodiversity, Public Awareness, Effluent management and Ganga Gram.
- Implementation Agency: National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) and its state and district counterparts under the Ministry of Jal Shakti.
Inland Fisheries sector in India
- India is the second largest fish producing country with around 8% share in global fish production.
- Inland fisheries contribute more than 75% of total fisheries output.
- Initiatives:
- Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF): Provides funding for creation of infrastructure.
- Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY): Addresses critical gaps in fish production and productivity, technology, post-harvest infrastructure etc.
- Other: National Marine Fisheries Policy 2017, Blue Revolution Scheme, etc.
Coronal Mass Ejection (CME)
- Coronal Mass Ejection is a massive burst of solar plasma, charged particles (such as electrons and protons) and magnetic fields ejected from the Sun’s outer atmosphere (Corona).
- Fast-moving CMEs generate shock waves which can compress Earth’s magnetosphere, leading to geomagnetic storms that disrupt satellites, GPS systems, radio communications, and even power grids.
- They can also intensify auroras and increase radiation risks for astronauts and high-altitude flights.
- Origin: CMEs occur due to changes in the Sun’s magnetic field in the corona.
- When twisted magnetic field lines suddenly reconnect, they release huge energy and eject solar material into space.
- CMEs are most common during solar maximum during times when the sunspot cycle is most active.
- They are often linked to solar flares (bright flash of light) but can also occur independently.
About Aditya L1
- It is India’s first dedicated solar mission aimed at observing photosphere, chromosphere and the outermost layers of the Sun (the corona) using electromagnetic and particle and magnetic field detectors.
- Launch: 2023 by PSLV-C57.
- Payloads: it has 7 payloads (all indigenously developed).
- Location: Placed in a halo orbit around the Lagrange point 1 (L1) of the Sun-Earth system, about 1.5 million km from the Earth.
- L1 is a location in space where the gravitational forces of two celestial bodies, such as the Sun and Earth, are in equilibrium.
Sweden (Capital: Stockholm)
- India and Sweden deepen AI Partnership through Sweden–India Technology and Artificial Intelligence Corridor (SITAC) Framework.
- Political Features
- It is a Nordic nation which is the largest country in Northern Europe.
- Located on the Scandinavian Peninsula in northern Europe.
- Constitutional monarchy, Member of EU and NATO.
- Geographic features
- Land Boundaries: Finland (east), Norway (north and west).

Global Mind Health 2025 Report
- Sapien Labs, a not-for-profit organization released the Global Mind Health 2025 report under its Global Mind Project.
- Report is based on Mind Health Quotient (MHQ) which encompasses all aspects of mental function, emotional, cognitive, and social as well as drive and resilience.
- Key findings related to India
- Young adults (18-34) with a MHQ score of 33 (global MHQ – 66.), rank 60th globally in mental health and well-being.
- In contrast, Indians aged 55 and above score 96, ranking 49th globally.
- Ultra-processed food consumption, associated with increased depression and diminished emotional and cognitive control, among the 18-34 age group is 44%.
IOC
- Objective: To promote international cooperation and to coordinate programmes in research, services and capacity-building in order to learn more about Oceans.
- Members: 152 (India is a member).
- Secretariat: Paris, France.
- Key Highlights of Report
- Carbon Sink: Oceans absorb excess atmospheric CO₂, reducing greenhouse gas concentration.
- Solubility Pump: Cold ocean waters dissolve CO₂ and transport it to deep ocean layers for long-term storage.
- Land–Ocean–Ice Exchange: Oceans exchange carbon with rivers and melting ice, influencing global carbon distribution.
Central Asian Flyway (CAF)
- The CAF comprises several important migration routes of waterbirds; is home to 605 migratory bird species.
- It extends across the central Eurasia, between the Arctic and Indian Oceans, spanning 30 countries.
- It overlaps with the African–Eurasian and East Asian–Australasian flyways.
Palamu Tiger Reserve (PTR)
- Palamu Tiger Reserve launches ‘Vanjeevi Didi’ initiative for women to protect wildlife.
- The programme identifies and trains educated women to act as a bridge between the forest administration and local families.
- About PTR
- Location: Located in the western Latehar district on the Chhotanagpur plateau in Jharkhand.
- It is one of the first 9 tiger reserves created in the country at inception of ‘Project Tiger’.
- Betla National Park is part of the core area of Palamau Tiger Reserve.
- Flora: Dominated by Northern Tropical Dry Deciduous Sal (Shorea robusta) forest, bamboo groves etc.
- Fauna: Tiger, Asiatic Elephant, Leopard, Grey wolf, etc.
- Rivers: Koel, Burha and Auranga.
