- NHRC’s Guidelines on Custodial deaths (1993): It calls for reporting of custodial death or rape within 24 hrs of occurrence.
- Previous SC Judgements:
- D.K. Basu vs. State of West Bengal (1997): Provided specific guidelines for safeguarding of detainees and procedure for arrest.
- Prakash Singh vs. Union of India (2006): Orderedthe setting up of a Police Complaints Authority in each state to look into complaints against officers of and above the rank of SP in cases related to custodial death.
- Shafhi Mohammad v. State of Himachal Pradesh (2018): Directed the Ministry of Home Affairs to set up a Central Oversight Body (COB) to implement videography in crime scenes.
Nayi Chetna 4.0
- It is a month-long campaign by Ministry of Rural Development under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM).
- Involves SHG participation and convergence of 11 Ministries.
- Aim: To strengthen community action against gender-based violence and promote women’s safety, dignity, and economic empowerment across rural India.
- Focus areas:
- Enabling safe mobility.
- Recognising women as key economic contributors.
- Addressing unpaid care work through shared community responsibility.
- Enhance women’s access to assets, credit, skills, and markets to expand entrepreneurship and livelihood opportunities.
International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women
- Background: Despite the UN adopting the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), 1979 (India ratified it), gender-based violence remains widespread across the world.
- In 1993, the UN General Assembly adopted resolution 48/104, establishing the Declaration on the Elimination of Violence against Women and laying the groundwork for global action.
- In 2000, the UN formally designated 25th November as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and urged governments, international bodies, and civil society to organise awareness campaigns annually.

- The Partagali Mutt is celebrating 550 years of its establishment.

- The ICC T20 World Cup 2026 begins on 7 February in India and Sri Lanka.
- India is grouped with Namibia, Netherlands, USA and Pakistan.
- Rohit has featured in all T20 World Cup editions since 2007.
