Taliban to Appoint First Diplomat in India Since Kabul Takeover

The Taliban will appoint its first diplomat in New Delhi since its 2021 takeover of Afghanistan. Afghanistan’s acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi visited India in October 2025. India continues to provide humanitarian and medical aid, including 16 tonnes of disease-control medicines. Both countries are expected to appoint charge d’affaires to lead their respective missions. The Taliban expressed support for India’s sovereignty over Jammu and Kashmir.

India Clinch First-Ever Women’s World Cup Title

  • India defeated South Africa by 52 runs in the 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup final.
  • Shafali Verma scored 87 runs and took 2 wickets; Deepti Sharma made 58 runs and took 5/46.
  • Laura Wolvaardt scored 101 runs for South Africa.
  • This is India’s first-ever Women’s World Cup title under captain Harmanpreet Kaur.

Delhi Government Launches ‘Pink Saheli Smart Card’ for Free Travel

  • ‘Pink Saheli Smart Card’ launched for free bus travel for women and transgenders in Delhi.
  • Applicable across all DTC and cluster buses for individuals above 12 years of age.
  • Scheme announced by Delhi CM Rekha Gupta on November 2, 2025.
  • Education reforms also initiated to regularise schools in non-conforming areas.

Mexico Celebrates Day of the Dead Festival

  • The “Day of the Dead” (“Día de los Muertos”) is celebrated from October 31 to November 2 in Mexico.
  • Mexico City’s annual parade began in 2016, inspired by the James Bond film “Spectre” (2015).
  • Approximately 1.5 million people attended the 2025 parade in Mexico City.
  • The celebration honours deceased children on November 1 and adults on November 2.

Maharashtra makes Leprosy a Notifiable Disease

  • Leprosy (Hansen’s disease) is caused by Mycobacterium leprae; MDT cures the infection and is provided free in public facilities.
  • Reporting is now mandatory within 14 days of diagnosis in Maharashtra.
  • WHO and India endorse single-dose rifampicin post-exposure prophylaxis (SDR-PEP) for eligible contacts.
  • Notification aims to improve early detection and prevent disability due to late presentation.
