National Cancer Awareness Day is observed annually on “November 7” in India.
The day commemorates the “birth anniversary of Marie Curie”, the scientist who advanced cancer research.
It was launched in “2014” by the “Ministry of Health & Family Welfare”.
The “2025 theme” follows World Cancer Day’s campaign: ““United by Unique.””
India reported “1.46 million new cancer cases” in 2022, with one in nine people likely to develop the disease in their lifetime.
Bar Council Approves Kerala’s Proposal to Reserve Seats for Transgender Students
The Bar Council of India approved Kerala’s proposal to create two supernumerary seats for transgender students in all state law colleges.
The move follows a Kerala High Court directive dated October 24, 2025.
The case was initiated by a transgender candidate who qualified in KLEE 2025 but was denied admission.
The proposal aligns with the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019, and the Supreme Court’s NALSA judgment (2014).
Vedanthangal Bird Sanctuary Hosts Rich Diversity of Migratory Species
Vedanthangal Bird Sanctuary is located about 90 km from Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
Over 20 migratory bird species, including open-billed storks and white ibis, nest here annually.
The sanctuary’s tank is replenished by Valayaputhur lake and holds up to 20 feet of water.
Forest officials plan desilting and new barringtonia plantations post-summer.
Baba Kalyani Committee (2018)
In June 2018, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry formed a committee chaired by Baba Kalyani to review India’s SEZ policy and recommend strategic reforms.
Reform SEZ focus: Rename as 3Es (Employment & Economic Enclaves), target domestic demand, and delink from NFE performance.
Incentive restructuring: Base incentives on investment, job creation, women employment, value addition, and technology differentiation.
Sector-specific frameworks: Create separate rules for manufacturing and services SEZs.
Infrastructure & EoDB: Develop high-quality infrastructure and walk-to-work zones, with a single online portal for investment, operations, and exits.
National Bee Board (NBB)
The National Bee Board was registered as a society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 on July 19, 2000, and reconstituted under the Chairmanship of the Secretary (A&C) in June 2006.
The primary objective of NBB is to promote scientific beekeeping, enhance crop productivity through pollination, and increase honey production to boost the income of beekeepers and farmers.
It has been designated as the Nodal Agency for the overall development and promotion of scientific beekeeping in the country .
